Ich habe mal den film "The Country I Saw" Googled der in dem Tweet genannt wurde, und fand diesen Artikel hier:

Der Punkt hier ist besonders interessant:

The movie is rather less encouraging on the subject of whether North Korea will negotiate away its nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. Particularly notable is the observation that ideological conflict no longer dominates international politics. North Korea's place in the world, at least in The Country I Saw, is entirely a function of missile and nuclear capabilities. The United States may be able to achieve temporary reduction in tensions and even freeze certain programs, but it seems equally clear that the DPRK has concluded that its survival as a functioning state in the international system is entirely a product of its military capabilities. Soft power is not concept that gets much attention in The Country I Saw.

We are entering a period where US policy will be able to do little to threaten or persuade North Korea to surrender its nuclear weapons. A resolution of North Korea's nuclear weapons status is likely only to occur as part of a much more fundamental resolution of the questions raised by the Korean War. Many in the United States have not fully grasped how central the role of nuclear and missile programs have become to the core goal of regime survival. During the negotiation and collapse of the so-called "Leap Day Deal," US negotiators believed for much too long that North Korea might be persuaded to the forgo the rocket launch to celebrate the centenary of Kim Il Sung's birth.  The Country I Saw makes clear why that would be unthinkable for North Korea's leaders. The Country I Saw contains scene after heavy-handed scene reinforcing the notion that Kim Il Sung's regime is exceptional as the one country able to survive the unrelenting hostility of a predatory United States through its hard power. Just as the rocket launch was a symbolic expression of this connection, suspending the launch under foreign pressure would reveal the fundamental bankruptcy of Kim's legacy. That would be the political equivalent of the stroke that leaves the victim paralyzed from the waste down and unable to speak. Kim Il Sung may be dead, but in North Korea that doesn't he is impotent or mute. In North Korea, after all, he is still President.

Also, selbst wenn Trump Kim trifft, wird Kim niemals auf nuklear Waffen verzichten wollen.

Ich habe nochmal nachgedacht: wenn der größte Präsident aller Zeiten und Völker den Besuch in Nordkorea plant, wird er zumindest bis dahin keinen Militärschlag planen (anders sieht es 10 Minuten nach seiner Rückkehr aus). Ich bin also dafür, dass alle für den Besuch sind.

Es ist übrigens ein von langer Hand vorbereitetes Unternehmen:



D. h., in der nächsten Viertelstunde kann es mit der Planung auch wieder vorbei sein. Z. B. wenn sich John Bolton seinen Schnurrbart abrasiert (vgl. #201) und der vierte Stern für General McMaster gefunden ist (es geht die Sage, im Pentagon tue man sich schwer damit, weil man dem Präsidenten eins auswischen und ihm das Abservieren seines Sicherheitsberaters nicht auf dem Tablett servieren will). 

Also: auch wenn nichts dabei herauskommen wird – ich bin auf jeden Fall dafür! Jeder Aufschub, in dem die Spannungen nicht weiter angeheizt werden, ist ein Wert an sich.

Ja. Es ist übrigens Trumps Erfolg. Ohne Trump wäre das alles nicht möglich, denn Trump hat - anders als Hillary Clinton - keine Historie von Beteiligungen an Regimestürzen. (Irak, Syrien, der erfolglose Versuch in Syrien)

Kim scheint bereit zu sein, auf die Nuklearwaffen zu verzichten - und es muss ihm von den USA, Japan, China, Russland und Südkorea ein Weg eröffnet werden, wie er ohne Gesichtsverlust auf sie verzichten kann. Die Welt muss ihm seine persönliche Sicherheit, die seiner Familie und die seines Regimes und seiner Regimeanhänger in Nordkorea garantieren.

Wenn das passiert ist alles möglich, vielleicht sogar eine friedliche Wiedervereinigung beider Koreas.

Das muss man sich auf der Zunge zergehen lassen. Daten sind einzig dazu da, die Intuition des Präsidenten zu bestätigen, die immer richtig ist. Eine andere Funktion haben sie nicht.

So klar haben das nicht einmal die Kommunisten formuliert. Aber einen Fehler hat Navaro begangen: es hätte heißen müssen His intuition. Hoffentlich kann er den politisch überleben.

Um nochmal den Ernst der Lage zu beleuchten,

Keine Sorge, es wird mit einer guten Wahrscheinlichkeit gar nicht zu dem tête a tête kommen. Das Statement des Grump war offensichtlich mal eben so herausgehauen, weil ihm danach war. Seine Sprachröhrin Huckabee-Sanders hat vorsorglich schon einmal die Hintertür geöffnet: wenn Nordkorea bis dahin - innert knapp zwei Monaten! - nachprüfbare Schritte zu Denuklearisation unternommen hat.

Und kommt es anders, dann hat vor allem einer den Triumph: der kleine Dicke. Der hätte nun das, was er und seine Ahnen seit Jahrzehnten erfolglos einforderten: direkte Gespräche, in denen er den großen Dicken an der Nase ziehen kann.
