Es summt ja wieder nervig und man sucht nach Möglichkeiten, den "Stechmücke" genannten Fehler der Evolution wieder vom Erdball zu tilgen. Da mir das jetzt schon mehrmals in die Zeitleiste geschleudert wurde, habe ich mal räscherschiert (es geht um die ach so tollen neuen Lampen, die man auch umhängen kann).

Even if those blue/uv light bug zappers did kill mosquitos, which is highly unlikely, they then by definition also draw many of them into the area. As others have mentioned, mosquitos are not particularly drawn to lights, so much as the smell to them of CO2 exhaled and the infrared a warm body produces. What they do kill, and many ignorant people care about, is kill lots of "Bugs". "Bugs" are the enemy. To the ignorant. Most of the insects that are drawn into the light and killed are not pests, and in fact many of them are very beneficial. For example, green lacewing insects are drawn in and killed. Their larvae are terrific pest eater, one of the best. At the very least, people who consider themselves earth friendly, and try to garden organically should not use them.

The mosquito trappers than use suction, and heat and CO2, usually powered by a propane bottle, do work pretty well, for the bigger, slower, dumber mosquitos. They sadly, do not work well for the most annoying; the small, fast, repeat biting Asian Tiger Mosquitos, which have invaded most warm climate areas of the world. Those mosquitos are just too strong and quick to get sucked into the trap. I know this from person correspondence, actual discussion from a customer. He had ordered and installed a Mosquito Magnet, and wasn't having good success reducing his mosquito population here in Dallas, where from late spring on, the Asian tiger mosquito is the main annoyance. He complained to the maker and they replaced his unit, and when it still didn't work, he staked out and watched what was the problem. He said that the unit attracted the mosquitos fined and they even got near and some inhaled into the trap, but they also just flew right back out. Not strong enough suction. He reported this to the maker, and they conceded that in their internal tests, the Mosquito Magnet doesn't work well on all species of mosquitos.
Back in Minnesota, I have several siblings who live in the country in mosquito rich areas, and especially in wet years, the mosquitos are horrible. My Brother-in-law said that after using his Mosquito Magnet for two nights, he cleaned out about half a 5 quart ice cream pail of dead mosquitos, and they kept their yards much more outdoor livable.

Wobei man klar sagen muss, das künstliche Ozon ist krebserregend, das natürliche, sauerstoffreiche im Luftkurort dagegen seeeehr heilsam.

Stimmt auch wieder. Ich denke darüber nach, mir eine Radontherapie im Heilstollen mit eingeblasener ozonhaltiger Waldluft zu gönnen. Wald und Stollen sind ja sowas von natürlich, das wird meine Lebensgeister wieder wachrütteln* und alle werden mich ob meiner Jugendhaftigkeit bewundern. Es wird herrlich




*das wäre dann nämlich doppelte Hormesis, wirkt doppelt gut

Ja, aber sie sind gescheitert (deshalb jetzt die Restposten). Man hatte die Idee, eine Matte zu entwickeln, die den (unerwünschten) Besucher abschrecken soll. Dazu hat man das Wort in sein Gegenteil verdreht (so wie es die Dark-Fuzzies mit dem Kreuz machen). Die Botschaft wurde allerdings von den wenigsten (vor allem den mit dem Wachtturm) verstanden. Man macht sich jetzt mit den Fördermillionen ein schönes Leben.
