Andrew Sullivan spricht aus, was wir alle wissen. Woodwards Buch kann niemanden überraschen; vom ersten Tag an war klar, wie das laufen wird. Inzwischen:

Corker sieht klar (so klar, wie man das von einem Republikaner verlangen kann). Er hätte genau wie einige seiner Kollegen, deren Fähigkeiten zur Realitätsprüfung noch nicht völlig verdampft sind, Handlungsmöglichkeiten, und tut – nichts. Trump ist für die das Schicksal, unausweichlich wie der Wintereinbruch.

Die Republikaner werden Kavanaugh bestätigen. Zwei bis drei Nein-Stimmen von ihnen würden genügen, ihn scheitern zu lassen.

Wie wird es weiter gehen? Nach den midterms werden Sessions, Mattis und Kelly rausgeworfen, die Mueller-Untersuchung wird gekappt, der Supreme Court wird das absegnen. Andrew Sullivan schließt:

From the moment Trump took office, we were in this emergency. All that we now know, in a way we didn't, say, a year ago, is that the chances of a successful resolution are close to zero.

Warum machen die das? Warum macht ein Mann wie Lindsey Graham eine so dramatische Wende, die allenfalls einer Selbstbezichtigung in einem Schauprozess vergleichbar wäre? Das ist nicht mehr ,,das kleinere Übel", die Standardausrede des Kollaborateurs.

Es muss Gründe dafür geben. Zu den Gründen, die ich hier vermute,

Es ist wahrscheinlich ein Komplex von Gründen: sie sind selbst besoffen vom Fox-Gucken, sie haben Furcht vor der Basis, die Sponsoren sind noch still (die Koch-Brüder haben gerade erst angefangen, für den freien Handel aktiv zu werden), die Dynamik beim Übergang zu Pence könnte aus dem Ruder laufen (was gäbe ich drum, wenn dieser bigotte Heuchler Präsident wäre).

Der einfachste Grund aber, der alles zusammenfasst, ist: sie haben ihre Seele verkauft. Schon ewig, und allmählich. Der Punkt, das Ruder herumzureißen, ist lange passé.

füge ich noch eine weitere Spekulation hinzu: Bei den Republikanern sind nicht 30.000, sondern 22 Millionen Emails verschwunden (WP). Die und alle späteren lagerten auf Servern, die von den Russen gehackt wurden (irgendwo habe ich eine Andeutung dessen gelesen).

Man überlege sich, was geschehen wäre, wenn Trump dieser Tweet morgens in seiner senilen Bettflucht eingekommen wäre und er ihn sofort abgedrückt hätte.

Aber das alles macht die Republikaner im Kongress nicht an.

Klar, man muss ja ein bisschen volkstümlich sein. Alle ganz angetan. Der Golfclub wirbt damit, dass das passieren kann.
