Zitat"Die Amerikaner tun mir leid"

Zitat von: David Ignatius, Washington PostHard to imagine an incident that would be more helpful to Trump White House and more harmful to its critics than this refusal to serve a senior government official, however troubling her views.

You saw "build a wall" rallies or heard "they're invading our country" *ONLY* when cable news was on. Not from people in KS, SD, OH, PA, CA, MN, MI where lots of immig/ refugees had arrived.

We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country. When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no Judges or Court Cases, bring them back from where they came. Our system is a mockery to good immigration policy and Law and Order. Most children come without parents...

ZitatThe most insidious thing about the descent into illiberalism is that it is incremental. There's no dramatic moment, no Rubicon. Every step seems bad, but only a little worse than the previous step. Smart autocrats are careful not to provide that moment.

Now here we are with a president who very openly pines for tyranny, explicitly disregards laws & norms, is nakedly racist, lies as often as he breathes, and oh yeah, is now JAILING TODDLERS TO DETER LEGAL IMMIGRATION.

OVERHEARD: Warner, the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, joking to the crowd: "If you get me one more glass of wine, I'll tell you stuff only Bob Mueller and I know. If you think you've seen wild stuff so far, buckle up. It's going to be a wild couple of months."

Zitat von: Trump Twitter, soebenThe Red Hen Restaurant should focus more on cleaning its filthy canopies, doors and windows (badly needs a paint job) rather than refusing to serve a fine person like Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

ZitatTrump has one ace up his sleeve, which is that for all the moaning and complaining by the Europeans and the Chinese, all of these countries are vitally dependent on access to America's massive consumer market. It is the prize for all foreign producers. A tit-for-tat trade war hurts everyone, but it hurts our rivals far more than it hurts us.
[...]
China imposes price controls on American drugs and vaccines, which reduces profits for the industry and raises drug prices here at home. These and other examples of cheating and theft are unacceptable going forward. Period. End of argument. Trump is a new sheriff in town, and the rest of the world is pouting that they can't get away with it anymore.

ZitatWhen Iowa Republican Party Chairman Jeff Kaufmann asked more than 1,100 delegates a defining question — who was still behind President Donald Trump? — there was no hesitation. In an exuberant display of unity, more than 1,100 delegates sprang to their feet, whistling, cheering and offering prolonged applause.

We Have a Crisis of Democracy, Not Manners
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/25/opinion/trump-sarah-huckabee-sanders-restaurant-civility.html
ZitatWhether or not you think public shaming should be happening, it's important to understand why it's happening. It's less a result of a breakdown in civility than a breakdown of democracy. Though it's tiresome to repeat it, Donald Trump eked out his minority victory with help from a hostile foreign power. He has ruled exclusively for his vengeful supporters, who love the way he terrifies, outrages and humiliates their fellow citizens. Trump installed the right-wing Neil Gorsuch in the Supreme Court seat that Republicans stole from Barack Obama. Gorsuch, in turn, has been the fifth vote in decisions on voter roll purges and, on Monday, racial gerrymandering that will further entrench minority rule.
...
[...] millions and millions of Americans watch helplessly as the president cages children, dehumanizes immigrants, spurns other democracies, guts health care protections, uses his office to enrich himself and turns public life into a deranged phantasmagoria with his incontinent flood of lies.
...
Faced with the unceasing cruelty and degradation of the Trump presidency, liberals have not taken to marching around in public with assault weapons and threatening civil war. I know of no left-wing publication that has followed the example of the right-wing Federalist and run quasi-pornographic fantasies about murdering political enemies. ("Close your eyes and imagine holding someone's scalp in your hands," began a recent Federalist article.) Unlike Trump, no Democratic politician I'm aware of has urged his or her followers to beat up opposing demonstrators.
...
Sometimes, their [liberals'] strategies may be poorly conceived. But there's an abusive sort of victim-blaming in demanding that progressives single-handedly uphold civility, lest the right become even more uncivil in response.

ZitatIf I can't go to Planned Parenthood for a routine pap smear without being screamed at and harassed by Christian protestors then Stephen Miller shouldn't be able to eat his fucking salad without being called an asshole.
