In an interview with The Times, Prof Arday admitted a series of errors in his work but attributed some to his autism, explaining that his method of making sense of information had relied heavily on mimicry.
ZitatI have a possible explanation that is only secondarily connected to skin color. Namely: at some point, the university sector decided that intellectual disability was something that should be mitigated, rather than treated as disqualifying one from scholarly life. Conditions such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, autism, ADHD, speech delay (and so on) were now to be treated as unfair obstacles to a person's dreams of pursuing an academic career, rather than constituting evidence they were unsuited. And since over-diagnosis of mental health conditions is rife in the sector, and everyone is frightened of being called discriminatory, the predictable upshot was that — at least in some cases — straightforward midwittery came to be treated like an excusable intellectual disability as well.
ZitatBut I can't help thinking another loser is Arday himself, wandering like a modern-day Forrest Gump through various prestigious institutions, treated like a sage for every strange or incomprehensible thing he says.

So hats off to the Juvenal of 21st century Britain. He has succeeded in highlighting the flagrant double standards of our academic and political elites. It goes without saying that any white professor accused of similar misdeeds would most likely have been defenestrated from the academy long ago. But because Arday is black and neurodivergent, he has been instinctively defended by people desperate not to seem racist. As Cofnas points out, to hold a scholar to lower standards because he is black is effectively to say that if he was held to the same standards as a white scholar, he couldn't possibly succeed – and that, surely, is a tad patronising, if not outright racist.
